Latinas Guiding Latinas

Latinas Guiding Latinas is a non-profit organization designed to provide K-12 students from the East Los Angeles and El Monte area with additional resources to develop their prospect for higher education. Founded in 1987 at the University of California, Los Angeles, LGL was pioneered by three students of the Raza Women Organization. Driven by their desire to advance the academic achievement of Latinas, these women created a program that would eventually partner UCLA undergraduates with students from Kennedy Elementary, Belvedere Middle School, Roosevelt High School, and Mountain View High School to become friends, role models, and ultimately effective mentors. Consistently focusing on graduation rates and social responsibility, LGL continues to motivate students to fulfill their potential in their daily lives while giving back to their community. For over 27 years, LGL has focused its efforts on empowering young women. Currently, however we are eager to expand our services to a male component. Driven by the motto, “Education is the key…Unity is our strength,” we are determined to enhance college readiness, academic success, and personal growth for our mentees.
